Puerto Morelos
A town and sea port in Quintana Roo, Mexico's easternmost state, on the Yucatán Peninsula.The town has about 10,000 full time residents. Most of the city life is based aroung the town square. This coastal fishing village is now a quiet, mixed-use neighborhood of private homes, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, and tourist shops. They have a couple of great resturants, a great english language book store and a wonderful little coffee shop. This is a great place for deep sea fishing.
Playa Del Carmen
Once a little fishing village that sat infront of the Island of Cozumel, it is now a large city for this zone, with a population of about 220,000 full time residents. The 5th avenue is a shopping and resturant haven, full on any given day with tourists and locals from all over the world. But not only is there great shopping and world class food. Playa del Carmen host many events such as the Mayakoba Classic PGA Tour and the BPM music festival. You can always find something exciting and wild to do, something romantic, or just hang out and enjoy the beach life.
Puerto Aventuras Mexico
This town is a "Disneyland" for ocean lovers. It has a polulation of about 6,000 people and is the only deep water port on the coast, this marina village is full of amazing acivities for all ages, catamaran rides, sailing, deep sea fishing, and golfing. Most of the community commutes around on bicycles or golf carts. It is a wonderful place to retire or raise children.
Akumal
The town of Akumal, once an artist haven is a cute little village where turtles nest and swim. There is a number of cute shops and a couple of great restaurants. Known for the snorkeling, it is a great place to hang out for the day.
Tulum
Known for the Mayan Ruins that bear its name and it fabulous beach, Tulum has a relaxed and laid back beach zone. Tulum town (as it is affectionatley known) has a number of good restaurants, clubs and is full of many naturalists, hippies, and new age style people. There are a number of yoga groups in the area.
Weather
Quintana Roo has a semi-tropical climate. The hottest time of year is from mid-May until the end of August when temperatures can reach 110°F. September to the end of November is the rainy season with late afternoon downpours. Hurricane season officially starts in June, lasting until November with the strongest winds in the autumn months. From December until the end of April the average temperature is 71-89°F with occasional cold spells that drop the temperature to a chilly 65°F.
Transportation
There are many ways to get from the Airport to your destination such as renting a car, taking a taxi, or the ADO bus. But without a doubt the best way and usually most economic is hiring a car or van service prior to arriving (pre-paid airport transfers) since the chauffer will be waiting for you when you exit with your luggage and take you directly to the door of your location.
Time Zone
The time zone is CST or UTC-5. It was adjusted last year to match the US East Coast time. It means we're sharing the same hour as New York, Atlanta, Miami, and even La Habana in Cuba, and Ottawa and Montreal in Canada.
Currency
The official currency is the Mexican peso but American dollars are also widely accepted. If you want pesos, you can get them from ATMs and banks. Banks are open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, some until 5 pm. A few open on Saturday from 10 am to 1:30 pm. Ensure you inform your bank before traveling abroad, and be aware you may be charged for cash withdrawals. It is advisable to exchange some cash before arrive.
